TAKE MY BURDEN
Matthew 11:28-30
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
The first thing I hope you see here is the Jesus says come. There's a since in this verse that Jesus is waiting for you. He knows that you are weary and He knows that you are burdened, so he invites you to come.
Stop here.
In your heart, go to Jesus.
Notice if your heart is eager, suborn, or indifferent to go to Christ, but no matter the state of your heart direct it's path to Him.
Jesus says to take "my yoke upon you", in this statement is the understanding that you are already "yoked" to something. Jesus is encouraging you to throw off the burdensome things we yoke ourselves to and connect yourself to Him.
Reflection on Jesus' Yoke
What is a yoke? For us non-farmers, this illustration my get lost on us. A yoke is a devise that connects two things together, generally a yoke connects two oxen together to share the burden of work. Often times an older oxen would be yoke together with a younger one, in order to train and strengthen the younger. The picture Jesus is drawling for His audience here is one of being bound to Him as you move through life. To allow Jesus to guide, strengthen, and direct our way.
